Dear Time Magazine,
My family farms in Central Kentucky and we are stunned at the blatant one-sided article (America’s Food Crisis and how to Fix It) that appeared in your magazine recently. It appears that the writer of this article didn’t do any research on real farms in our country! We raise beef calves with our son and son-in-law and we are committed to raising quality protein not only for our own family, but your families as well.
You can walk into any grocery store in this country and the shelves are full of almost any kind of food you could possibly want. Safe, nutritious and abundant food! My family takes great pride in that fact! We help provide that quality food that you can buy for your family. We care about what we do and we provide a safe, healthy environment for our animals.
We face so many obstacles as farmers that we have no control over, such as weather conditions and market prices that it males it doubly painful to have attacks coming from a magazine that we have respected in the past. Time, with articles like this now appears to be little more than a tabloid you pick up at the checkout lane!
I would challenge you and your reporter to come to real farmers and ranchers to learn how we really do the work that we love and that is so vital to all Americans. We take care of our animals and our land and take pride in what we do.
Sincerely,
Terry Gilbert
